Sydney Hondaprelude.com Meet

Sydney, Australia
By Stevo

After about 6 weeks in planning and discussion on the boards, revising dates and times to meet, the 29th of June finally rolled around, which was the date of the first Sydney, Australia, hondaprelude.com organised Prelude meet.
We decided that the members north of Sydney would meet at a servo at Hornsby, while those in Sydney would meet at another location, and we would all meet up at another location, have a chat, then go for a cruise around Sydney.

I met the northerners at 2pm at the servo at Hornsby. Four Preludes (richie78, lude4u, b16aprelude and myself), and a well-kitted out and airbrushed Mitsubishi Lancer(HU5.51E) met up and we exchanged greetings and had a short chat. We were scheduled to meet the rest of the Sydney members at around 3pm at Scott's Honda in Artarmon, a short distance down the road.
Along the way we seemed to pickup a few other Prelude owners driving in our pack, but they eventually went their own ways. The traffic-lights at the Mona Vale/Pacific Highway junction were interesting. Three lane highway, the ludes lined-up ready to race. We weren't sure whether we were racing, or just posing to other traffic, so it was a hesitant go on the green light!

At the Honda dealership, we waited for members 'cartoon' and 'mz-coop' and some of their buddies to arrive, including a Nissan S15 Silvia (BPR.OOF), Toyota MR2 (2REVUP), another kitted Mitsubishi Lancer(YBNVS) before checking out cartoon's H22A transplant in his 3rd gen Prelude and having a good chat.
We then drove off to Lane Cove to a carpark to get some photos and check out each others rides and get some ideas for our own. We even got a passing comment from an elderly lady walking past that our cars were 'very nice and clean'!

By this time we were all getting quite hungry so it was off to get some food. A little while later, after having some drivers caught-up and left behind from traffic lights, we arrived at Prospect, a suburb on the Great Western Highway. We had a bite to eat, got some more photos and a couple more cars joined us: A Honda Integra Type-R (2TEAZU) and a 160dB, bass-filled, car-alarm setting off, Suzuki Cino.

It was now around 7pm, so we had a few hours to kill before meeting around 30 other cars for the main cruise down to Campbelltown and out to watch some runs in an abandoned industrial area. We decided to go for a cruise to Penrith along the highway to meet up with a few more people, which proved an interesting drive. Lots of traffic-lights on a high-speed limited stretch of highway, meant for some good races that didn't exceed the speed limit.

About 10pm we met up with the rest of the cruising pack at a large Burger King carpark. This was where the Cino showed us its stuff, with the intense bass vibrating everything in the area, setting off YBNVS' Lancer in its doing. Heaps of different cars showed up while we were there, ranging from R33 Skylines and Supras, to Excels and Suzuki Jeeps. It was then off to Campbelltown, with an impressive cruising pack of about 30 cars. Unfortunately the Police were out in force, and being a prime target for them, one of our cruisers was pulled over.

At the abandoned industrial area we were showcased with a few races, one in particular between a Nissan Pulsar and a Suzuki Jeep. 2REVUP showed us his stuff in his MR2 while others stood around and cheered, watched and chatted. Somehow the Police found out everywhere we went, so it was a quick escape and cruise off to the next location.
By this time it was almost 12 am, and had been a long day for those who had travel from far north of Sydney, so some of us left to go back home, while the majority continued on into the early hours of the morning.

Overall it was a fun day/night, being able to put a face to a name on the board who we chat to all the time. It was also a good chance to see what other members had done to their cars and to inspire each other to do more to our own cars. Unfortunately it was a freezing cold night being in the middle of winter, so next time we should schedule one for the warmer summer months perhaps.
We should also organise a cruise into the heart of the city where we can really turn some heads, and encourage more Prelude owners to join hondaprelude.com and come along to our cruises.
